It commemorates the story of the Exodus as described in the Hebrew Bible especially in the Book of Exodus, in which the Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt.
Passover Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, the holiday commemorating the Hebrews' exodus from slavery in Egypt, lasts seven days in Israel and among Reform Jews, and eight days elsewhere around the world.
It begins on the 15th day of Nisan, which is the seventh month in the Jewish calendar.
Passover date and day in 2017 will commence on Tuesday, 11th of April and stretches till 17th of April – for 7 long days.
As the Jewish custom, many Jews can also start to celebrate Passover on the sunset of the previous day – 10th of April.
There is a ceremony of Seder that is performed on the first two evenings of Passover celebrations.
